Privacy Policy

photon is published by the developer named as its seller on the App Store listing (“we”, “us”). This covers the apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac, and this website.

1. What we collect

Nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no tracking. There is no server of ours for anything to be sent to. We use no analytics provider, no crash reporter and no other third party that would receive your data, and we have nothing to sell or share.

The only personal data we ever hold is what you send us yourself by email — section 5. Under UK data protection law we are the controller of that, and of nothing else.

2. What stays on your device

None of this is sent to us. Delete the app and it goes with it.

• Your server passwords and sign-in tokens, in your device's keychain, sent only to the server they belong to.
• The servers and subscriptions you have added, and your settings — languages, playback preferences, how you have arranged Home.
• Downloads and opened files, and a note of what you have been watching so Spotlight can find it. Built from what is already on the device; it fetches nothing.
• Cached artwork and listings your servers sent, so pages redraw quickly.
• A random identifier for this installation, so your own servers can tell your devices apart. We never see it.

3. What syncs through your iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud, your list of servers and the settings that describe you move between your own devices, in your private iCloud storage. Server addresses are encrypted. We have no access, and none of it passes through anything of ours. Apple's handling of it is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy; you can stop it by turning iCloud off for photon in your device settings.

4. What goes to your servers, and to Apple

When you browse or play something, photon asks the servers you added. Those requests unavoidably show what you are looking at, along with your account there and the address you are connecting from. Those servers are not ours — what each one keeps is up to whoever runs it, which for a server in your own home is you.

Apple handles the purchase and may give us anonymous, aggregated figures such as installs and crashes by country. We cannot identify you from them. Siri, Spotlight, Handoff, widgets and Live Activities are the operating system's, and work under Apple's terms and your permissions.

5. If you email us

Write to [email protected] and we keep your message and address for as long as it takes to answer you and to have a record — ordinarily no more than 24 months. The basis is our legitimate interest in supporting people who use the app. No mailing list. Email is handled by our mail provider and may be stored outside the UK under the standard safeguards.

6. This website

https://photon.oliverwalton.uk is a handful of static pages. No cookies, no analytics, and nothing loaded from anyone else — the fonts are served from this site, not from Google. The host may keep short-lived logs for security and reliability.

7. Your rights

For the correspondence in section 5 you can ask for a copy, ask us to correct or erase it, object to or restrict how we use it, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within a month. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, or to your national data protection authority in the EEA. Everything in sections 2 and 3 is already yours to delete.

8. Children, and changes

photon is not aimed at children under 13, and collects no data from anyone of any age. If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it.
